Night Reading

First the taster, then the paperback

I found this site yesterday through a link from an authomite:

You paste some of your writing into a box, and a program tells you who you write like. So far it's told me I write like James Joyce and David Foster Wallace (I have no idea who this second one is). Try it, it's fun.

Ha! Now I write like Arthur C. Clarke. Not sure if I've ever read anything by him.

Apparently I write like Stephen King. Huh--who knew that he was into writing chick-lit and romantic comedy? Of course, there was that book he did called the Sleepwalkers. There was a romantic couple in that. Of course, they were mother and son....EWWWW!!!!!

Hm... my first chapter got 'Stephen King' too. Stephen King must have a very common writing style/ or that site is a bit limited LOL. Or maybe he writes about people stuck in lifts.

However, I put in another chapter and got 'Cory Doctorow', whoever they may be.

I think I can understand why. Stephen King writes a lot of stylistic fragments and short paragraphs, all for effect. I do that as well. He also has a very conversational tone to his writing in that he doesn't use complicated sentence structure or flowery language. He just writes, and when you read it, you feel like he's there telling a story. I'd like to think I'm the same way. Perhaps I should have put this post under the "Hooting Your Horn" section? LOL.

Yes I think you should have, young lady :P

But that is interesting what you say about King. I don't use complicated sentences or flowery language either, so maybe I do write like him :-? The reason is that I'm hopeless at descriptions, shhh!

Sorry. I can't help myself sometimes. But yeah, I can see it for both of us Catherine. So congrats! You write like a King! Or should that be queen?
